Mix up a smoothie for great skin!

They say that you are what you eat, and it certainly can be reflected in your skin! Certain nutrients, many found in fruits, can have a positive effect on your skin. A great way to take steps toward great skin is to mix up a smoothie with some skin-friendly ingredients.
The following fruit smoothie recipe has four fruits that are particularly good for your skin:
Blueberries: Blueberries have a high carotenoid (Beta-Caraotene) content. Carotenoids are super skin boosters because they convert to active Vitamin A, which stimulates the renewal of skin cells. That in turn leads to softer and smoother skin.
Papaya: Papaya has a particularly high amount of antioxidant Vitamin C along with beta-carotene, flavonoids, folate, potassium and magnesium. Vitamin C is necessary to produce collagen, which is what keeps your skin firm.
Strawberries: Strawberries are also high in vitamin C, and they have other antioxidants which help break down free radicals that can damage your skin and lead to wrinkles.
Pear: Pears contain a large amount of fiber, more than most fruits. Fiber helps the body get rid of toxins that can damage your skin and lead to breakouts.
To make a healthy and skin-friendly smoothie with these fruits, add equal parts of each to your blender, Ninja, or Nutribullet (about 1/3 cup each for a single serving). Using frozen fruit is fine and will allow for a thicker texture. I usually use frozen blueberries and strawberries. Add about 1/2 cup of the liquid of your choice and blend. You may need to add a bit more liquid if using frozen fruits. I like to use vanilla soy milk, but regular milk, almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, or even just plain water if fine. If you want a bit of protien in your smoothie too, add about 1/4 cup of greek yogurt.
This smoothie is tasty, healthy, low calorie, high fiber, and great for your skin. All that makes it pretty darn awesome!
